ThrifTea Finds

Here are some of my latest thrifty finds from the past couple of weeks.

It was a good silver day...

I'll use these for flowers on tea tables (after I polish them).

Pretty candy dish (?) I think that is what it is.
I liked the shape.

UPDATE

Here's the candy dish (?) all polished and shiny.

This was so tarnished it was beyond black
-almost purple- to get beneath the surface!
My fingers are crippled.
But it was worth the instant gratification!

Even better with flowers!
*sigh*

So if any of my antique friends know anything about silver,
the bottom of this piece is stamped
"ARGOSY 1847 Rogers Bros. 00669".
Be interesting to know a lil 'bout it....

Small silver tea set for Raina to play with.

Just. Because.
They are hot pink!
Probably never to be worn
(not by me at least, not with my bunion).
But they will make for a very hip floral centerpiece.
Someday.

Knick-knacks.
I love this kind of lime colored moss.
The frames I shall paint white and distress,
put a floral print fabric back to it and attach a
small china plate in the middle.

I want to give it a try at some of the neat-o tags
and paper ephemera stuff,
so here is my first purchase of sheet music.

I love retro jewelery...

And the pièce de résistance.

I had five minutes to squeeze in and visit one of the thrift stores
I frequent and spotted this cutie right away! It made my day.

Love the font style for the word COOKIES.

So, until the next episode of thrifty goodness......ThrifTea On!

Wonderful purchases. I LOVE silver and I find most people don't because of the polishing. I just polished a bunch of mine. What else can you do that brings instant results?! Great earrings. I made a bunch of magnets out of old earrings like that. Love it all, good thrifting!

Ele,
That's a great idea for the earrings! Even though I love them, I find that when I actually wear them I can't stand the pinching feeling from the clip-ons and end up pulling them off not too long after putting them on.
I think I will try your idea...thanks for the comment!

It's also good to know there are others who appreciate a good silver polish shine gratification...

Risa, you DID have a good day for silver! I think that candy dish is probably a pretty nice piece, and it polished up just BEAUTIFULLY! It looks amazing with those flowers in it! My other favorite is the silver cups in the first photo. Your plans for the frames sounds intriguing--do post when you get your project done so we can see how they turned out!

Risa, you have a great eye for all things silver. I can never pass up silver, no matter how tarnished. Most I buy is past redemption for most, kind of looks like carnival glass, past the purple hue on to black. But if you ever visit my blog, you'll see that one of my seven weird facts is that I LOVE polishing silver! Yes, instant gratification!

Love your blog!

Hi Risa, what great stuff. I love old silver, especially when it gets a little tarnish on it. Drives my mother in law crazy when she comes to visit! That cookie jar is divine too! xo, suzy

Just found your site...what gorgeous things! I love that cookie jar! The silver pieces are wonderful. Awhile ago, while thrifting, I found a beautiful silver water pitcher, but it was tarnished. I put silk pink flowers in it just because, and I loved how it looked.

Love that silver! And of course, the shoes.

Love all your goodies you found. The cookie jar is my favorite, but I'm interested in what type of centerpiece you are going to make with the shoes-how intriguing!

Gah, I never polish my silver. Maybe I am not using the right thing to do it with??? I never have such spectacular results.

HI I've just arrived at your blog (it's lovely) via somewhere can't remember where now but I recognise that piece of sheet music - I knew I had seen it before.

I have done many cross stitch in the past and my biggest project has that piece of music in it. I just thought it was made up - didn't realise it actually was sheet music - I play piano also. Anyway I will post a photo of the finished cross stitch in the next few days if you are interested.

A lovely blog - again.
